Ian Tiley has been appointed the first Chairperson of RDA-NR Board. He has over 48 years experience in local government. He was the mayor of the former Maclean Shire Council (1997-2000) and first mayor of the amalgamated Clarence Valley Council (2005-2008). Ian was 15 years a Shire Clerk; he has also been a farmer and feedlot operator, an hotelier and school bus operator for children with disabilities. His doctoral thesis on the economics and local democracy impacts of Australian local government amalgamations, featuring Clarence Valley Council (CVC) as the case study, was approved and he graduated as Doctor of Philosophy in March 2012. He continues as a CVC Councillor, is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of New England Armidale, a member of the executive committee of the UNE Centre for Local Government and a director of the North Coast Institute of TAFE Advisory Council.
