The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) six monthly Business in Focus report was released on Wednesday 25 January 2017. The report provides an update on key developments in the small business, franchising, and agriculture sectors.
The Small Business in Focus 1 July – 31 December 2016 report covers issues for small business, franchising and agriculture for the period from July to December 2016.
Some key points covered in the report include
- Unfair contract terms laws now apply to standard form small business contracts
- The government has introduced legislation into Parliament to amend the misuse of market power provisions in the Competition and Consumer Act
- Reported small business scam losses fell by over $200,000 compared to the previous six months, and
- Recent updates to the ACCC’s small business and tertiary online education programs, which have helped over 64,000 users to date
