The Department of Agriculture has released the Australian Food Statistics 2012-2013 data report.
The report provides a statistical overview of the major aspects of the Australian food industry and its place in the domestic and world economies in 2012-13.
Overall the Australian food and beverage industry in 2012-13 benefited from generally favourable production conditions in most of Australia and strong global demand for food. Drought conditions affected some areas, however food production still increased a little from 2011-12.
The performance of the export sector was strong in 2012-13 despite the relatively high value of the Australian dollar against major trading partner currencies.
Food industry employment remained strong at 14 per cent of Australia’s employment.
