Securing Our Food Future is a new project from RDA-Northern Rivers and the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.
On Friday 8 November, the Food Futures Resource Kit was launched. It is a collection of resources specifically designed to guide councils in supporting local food systems, improving the health of their communities and ‘future-proofing’ their regions against the rising economic, social and environmental costs associated with food supply.
The kit draws on successful food projects run by councils around New South Wales and amalgamates the resources developed and lessons learnt in to one kit intended to inspire, encourage and simplify the process for others. The kit is available to download from www.rdanorthernrivers.org.au/food-futures-council-resources
The resource kit is being launched at a number of workshops around New South Wales during November and December, which focus on implementation and the identification of potential projects for councils to roll out. Dates and locations are:
Monday 11 November — Deniliquin
Friday 15 November — Moruya
Monday 18 November — Blacktown
Tuesday 3 December — Orange
Friday 6 December — Kempsey

The project has been assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust. The project is managed by Regional Development Australia – Northern Rivers and overseen by a steering committee led by representatives from Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour City and Wollongong City Councils.
