Are you a member of an industry association or interested in finding out how they work?
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have published new guidance about industry associations on their website. This updated information can help industry associations to understand their rights and responsibilities under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
Although the interactions between industry association members is often legitimate commercial behaviour that can benefit both businesses and consumers – there is still a risk that some actions could breach competition laws.
The new guidance also includes information about:
- membership criteria
- association rules and codes of conduct
- advertising restrictions
- information sharing
- pricing
- collective bargaining.
