RDA Northern Rivers has released a new report, Blueberry Industry Business Barriers Review – NSW Northern Rivers.
This report was prepared by the RDA Northern Rivers for and on behalf of the NSW Department of Industry. It reviews and outlines economic risks and the major barriers to the blueberry industry in the Northern Rivers and the Woolgoolga area near Coffs Harbour.
Blueberry production in the region is likely to continue to expand. The report identifies some of the success factors and risks to this expanding industry success.
This includes:
- The large workforce required for a hand picked crop
- Employment issues relating to wage regulations, visas and accommodation
- Continued export market access
- Infrastructure
