Takeover is an exciting new place-based initiative, building on the success of the long-running Heywire program. It provides a platform for young people from the regions to be heard on the ABC and in their local community. Through school workshops, a youth Summit and a community grants program, Takeover strives to make a lasting difference in the regional communities that need it most.
The program involves young people in the national conversation; broadcasts their experiences; gives them the opportunity to build leadership skills; and provides them the opportunity to realise their most powerful ideas to strengthen their communities.
Takeover Lismore – May 2024
Takeover Lismore is bringing together our local youth to connect and share their ideas for making our region a better place for young people.
The Ideas Launch is the apex of the Takeover Lismore Summit. It’s where our Takeover winners present their ideas for improving regional Australia for young people to a distinguished panel. The participants present in five groups (of 3-6 people) for up to 4 minutes per group. Each group will present an idea they have developed this week to tackle an issue they face in their communities. For example, their ideas might address: youth mental health; young people in agriculture; inclusion or employment.
After the Summit, regional community organisations locally will be able to apply for funding from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal to pilot or further their Takeover ideas.
In the past, the organisations winning grants to implement the Summit Ideas included: youth action councils in regional towns; schools; chambers of commerce; youth groups; local health organisations; community media organisations; and agriculture peak bodies.
The Ideas Launch is free and open for our community to come along and hear our young people’s ideas for our region.
