Regional Plan 2013-2016
A new plan for the Northern Rivers
The Northern Rivers Regional Plan 2013-2016
is the culmination of months of research, data analysis and stakeholder consultation. The plan is a clearly articulated strategy for future development. Issues such as transport and affordable housing have been brought forward from previous plans (see below) as they are still priorities for our region. Some new ones have been added, for instance how we prepare for the digital economy and opportunities in health and aged care.

The Northern Rivers Regional Plan
addresses the key determinants of long-term regional economic growth as identified by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Regional Australia Standing Council, i.e.:
- comparative advantage and business competitiveness
- access to international, national and regional markets
- human capital
- sustainable communities and population change
27 activities and initiatives are proposed to respond to the issues, grouped into the following ‘Regional Priorities’
- connected communities
- a learning region
- natural infrastructure
- sustainable industry
- inclusive communities
- regional identity
- a collaborative region
The Northern Rivers Regional Plan 2013-2016 is accompanied by the Northern Rivers Regional Profile 2013 and the Northern Rivers Data Sets. The Regional Industry and Economic Plan was updated in 2014.
